Terry Feng is a musician, engineer, and creative artist challenging musicians and audiences alike to push the boundary of shared human experience. His research lies at the creative intersection of real-time digital signal processing (DSP), software tool development, and accessible experiences for music human-computer interaction (HCI). Towards musical engagement and empowering co-creativity, he develops computer-mediated interfaces to create new musical experiences for performance, expression, and play.
Terry is a recent graduate from the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) at Stanford University. He is the author of WebChucK IDE, creator of the Slide Whistlinator, and uses technology to reimagine artistic expression and experience. His research was advised by Patricia Alessandrini, Jonathan Berger, and Ge Wang. As a performing musician, Terry was a part of the Stanford New Ensemble (SNE), has conducted the Stanford Laptop Orchestra (SLOrk), and is the drummer for computer music band USB3.
Terry holds a B.S. in Computer Science as well as a B.A. in Music - Piano Performance from the University of California, San Diego. There he studied piano with teachers Aleck Karis and Dimitrios Paganous-Koukakis, as well as violin with Ilana Waniuk. As a violinist with the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus and Vice President of the Symphonic Student Association, Terry was a recipient of the 2022 Dr. Milton Saier, Sr. Memorial Young Artist Award and Scholarship for excellence in classical musical performance. Additionally as a composer and produceer, his album Library of Dreams with Donald Liang has been praised as "bringing the dynamic effects of site-specific sound art together with digital-electronic groove music of the slickest, chill-est quality" (Sarah Hankins, UC San Diego Today).
In his free time, Terry enjoys @collecting_pianos, exploring the world through photography, and growing to love God and love others!
